Why Foot Strength Matters (More Than You Think)
1. Your feet are your foundation
Every step, every squat, every run, most exercises start from the ground up.
If your base is wobbly, everything above it has to compensate.. knees, hips, pelvis, core, even your neck. Without a solid foundation in your feet, it’s difficult to build strong ankles, calves, legs and up to your glutes - it all starts from the feet!
2. Strong feet = better balance
Balance isn’t just about core. Your feet has tiny stabilising muscles that tell your body where you are in space. When they’re strong, you feel more grounded, more stable, more confident in your movement. Visualise deep supportive roots growing from sole of feet into the Earth in your balancing pose 🌳
3. They control your alignment
Weak feet can also collapse inward or outward, which may lead to:
knee pain
hip tightness
lower‑back pain
inefficient walking and running patterns
Strengthening your feet helps your whole body, especially your spine, line up properly
4. They absorb shock (so your joints don’t have to)
Every time you walk, jump, or run, your feet are meant to act like springs. Think Tigger or channel your inner ballerina with elegant, graceful, minimal impact movements.
If they’re weak, stiff, or under‑used, the impact travels upward - o no to knee pain + hip issues 😕
5. They help your glutes and core switch on
This is the part most people don’t realise. When feet grip, stabilise, and push off properly, your glutes and deep core fire more effectively. Toes (top half) of feet activate front of legs, when you drive from your heels.. you’re using back up legs up hamstring & to your butt.
It’s all connected - literally.
6. They’re full of sensory receptors
Your feet talk to your brain constantly.
Stronger, more active feet = better proprioception = better movement in everyday life
7. Modern life makes them weak
Shoes, sitting, flat surfaces - this all reduce natural foot strength.
Have you seen baby’s feet? The toes spread apart just like our hands + fingers..
